Training and skills checks

A skills check is a controlled demonstration. A paramedic performs a procedure, such as IV access, in front of a training officer or Medical Director, who grades it against a checklist your agency wrote.

A skills check is separate from your calls. It never changes your scorecard or your call numbers.

What a checklist proves, and what it doesn't

Every checklist states two things: what passing it proves, and what it does not prove. CaseSync won't save a checklist without both. You'll see them at the top of every check, before you're graded, and on the printed record.

Who can grade

A training officer or a Medical Director. Training officer is a permission your administrator grants, not a role you switch into.

Nobody can grade their own check. If you're the only person at your agency who can grade, you'll need a second grader.

For paramedics

Open More → My development. The Skills checks section shows your checks and where each one stands: Not submitted, Waiting to be graded, Graded or Abandoned.

  1. Run the check with your training officer.
  2. Open it and select Submit for grading.
  3. After grading, the check shows Met or Not met, your points, and the steps that lost points.

If a check was filed by someone else on your behalf, select I performed this check to confirm it.

If a check is Not met, select Start another attempt. The first attempt stays on your record. The new one sits alongside it, not over it.

For graders

Open More → Verifications. It lists every check waiting to be graded.

  1. Select Grade this check.
  2. Score each step.
  3. Tick any critical criterion that happened. Any one critical criterion ends the check as Not met, whatever the points say.
  4. Select Record this grade.

Every step must be scored. CaseSync won't record a partial grade.

Writing a checklist (administrators and Medical Directors)

Go to Admin → Quality → Competency checklists.

  1. Under Author a checklist, give it a title and choose the procedure it covers.
  2. Fill in What passing this proves and What it does not prove.
  3. Add the steps and their points. Mark at least one step as carrying the claim.
  4. Add any critical criteria.
  5. Select Save as draft, then Submit for attestation.

A Medical Director then selects Attest and publish. Only a Medical Director can do that. Publishing a new checklist retires the one it replaces.

The printable record

From any graded check, select Printable record, then Print / Save as PDF.

The printout is an unsigned record from your agency's own files. It isn't a credential or a licence, and it doesn't carry over to another agency.

Training library

If your agency has the training module, More → Training opens a searchable library of body-camera clips for teaching.
